The Book of Shaders is an online, chapter-by-chapter guide to GLSL fragment shaders with editable examples in every section.
Written by Patricio Gonzalez Vivo and Jen Lowe, the book walks through fragment shaders in order: what a shader is, uniforms, shaping functions, colours, shapes, matrices and patterns, then noise, cellular noise and fractals, image processing, simulations and 3D techniques such as ray marching. Every chapter includes interactive examples you can change to see the result immediately.
It is aimed at creative coders, game developers and engineers who already code and know some linear algebra and trigonometry, with an appendix for people coming from JavaScript. The site offers translations into 13 languages, plus appendices for reading offline, printing to PDF and running examples on a Raspberry Pi.
